The Astoria Bridge connects Oregon to Washington, 3.7 miles across the mighty Columbia River. I walked along the river on the combined walking/cycling and rail trolley path. Astoria is a small, pleasant town on a big waterway. The Columbia is the largest river in the western hemisphere entering the Pacific at the broadest expanse of open ocean in the world.

Locks and dams on the Columbia/Snake river system allow slack water navigation all the way to Lewiston, Idaho.
